Failures (18) : Epilogue 3 - Sea

Epilogue 3 - Sea

Yuu-chan  2024.09.04. 15:03

(Recommended background music: Blue from Eiffel 65 – any Millenials reading here?)

It didn’t matter how much beauty Seraing saw in his life, the ocean humbled him with its vastness. The power of those waves that washed the sandy shores, making rustling noises, seemed overbearing. There was wind too, much colder and stronger than in the cities or the woods. However, the clouds didn’t gather above them in the blue sky. For some reason, the blueness of that sky looked more vivid – maybe because the sea was also blue. It was almost like the whole world turned into blue, as he stood there on the beach, close to the border where the wet sand met with the dry sand, which was almost snow-white. The salty, humid air felt refreshing, and Seraing thought, he could just stand there until the night fell on him.

They stood at the beach for a little while before they began to search for the base. Seraing sent an email to the Admiral before, and the man told him, that they had an established military base at the beach, but he couldn’t describe the location to Seraing. According to Wu Tian, they could use the underwater equipment and suits – if they weren’t destroyed by the distortion that is.

Seraing found it. They only left the armored vehicle for around thirty minutes before they spotted the building in the distance, so they counted themselves lucky. Jibran got way too excited about it; he wanted to go there right away. But he also wanted to go into the water right away as well – Seraing had to remind him that they can’t just go into the waves, they needed to set up a camp, they needed to get their containers, and they had to change clothes.

The building was a smaller house than they anticipated; it seemed more like a wooden shack than a developed base. This surprised him, since their marine troops were still decently numbered back in the day, but got scolded by his doctor immediately.

“You’re still overestimating our industries’ manufacturing capabilities and the amount of resources we had in the past, sweetheart.” He explained. “We lost our cargo ships due to monster attacks. How did you imagine carrying the building materials from the base to this place?”

“They still brought some.” Seraing pointed out, since the roof of the building was made of tiles, and the locks and latches were iron.

“Well, of course. As much as they could with armored cars and small ships from the Northern Port. I guess it was also more important to have a developed port closer to the base, so they most likely used all of the available resources for that place. But I wonder how far the towns are… I imagined this place full of city ruins from the past.” When they passed some ruins on their journey to the sea, Jibran was overly excited, and just as much frightened there, for the cities were well-known hunting areas for monsters – and excellent hiding places.

“There.” Seraing raised his arm, but because of the tall, thin trees were stretching behind the shack, the doctor followed the direction with his eyes in vain. “You can’t see it from here. When we passed the mountains, I saw the cities at the foot. That was the coastline in the past. This part, with those hills that you’ve seen… this was the bottom of the ocean back then. The plants had overtaken it all by now. Waters evaporated after the collapse of the geomagnetic poles from solar winds. This is all we have left. At these coastlines, we wouldn’t find any city ruins, unless it was built after the Era of Calamity.”

“I know, smartass. I just tested how much you know.” Jibran clicked with his tongue.

Seraing hung his head shaking it, but he couldn’t hold back his smile.

Then he looked up at the slightly tilted, stormed and rickety wooden house. It was still quite large, capable of giving shelter for a few troops. It had huge doors which indicated that they probably left the armored vehicles inside before they boarded on a ship.

Seraing and Jibran with joint strength moved the warped wooden door, opening it widely. The wings’ corners dug into the sand – the level of the sand had probably elevated since the last time people came here, and the wind created some slopes at the doorway. When they finally swept it away, they could tie the wings to the walls with ragged ropes, which were hanging there for that very reason.

The shack turned out to be a tall, empty hangar. Now, it seemed more like a depot, than an actual base. As soon as they opened the doors, Seraing smelled moist and warm air, permeated with reek. He could sense wet wood, an unventilated fustiness and some kind of strong odour of glue or rubber at the same time. It was also pretty dark inside, especially after they were spending so much time under the glaring sun. They both squinted and waited a bit for their eyes to get used to the darkness.

On the opposite wall, there was a small window above a few boxes and pallets of canned foods and bottled water, but it was too tiny to let enough light in. Some bigger machines or boxes stood at the sides, covered with a large, elastic material. It was black and dusty, but they saw the Northern Base’s military-emblem on it – a red star with a white background.

They found a small motorboat, which had its engine broken, so Seraing set it aside to make more space. The boat itself was in good condition, he didn’t want to throw it away yet.

The food was not that promising, however: some cans were warped too, as if they collapsed from an invisible weight. As Jibran tried to open up one, they found a grey, messy liquid inside, that smelled like blood.

They found some diving gear, but the oxygen tanks were empty. A few life preservers – Jibran hung them on himself so quickly, as if he needed them inside the shack.

Communicators, weapons and equipment that they didn’t know what to use for – those were all the remaining treasures that were left. A lot of stuff was broken by the distortion. They didn’t have to work a lot, thankfully, just moved a few things, and the place was ready for them to park their car inside. The doctor didn’t even follow Seraing to the vehicle anymore; he just stood outside, while the younger man shunted the car to the hangar.

Jibran approached him when Seraing began to unpack the rods and folded covers that were meant to expand the interior of the car to create a tent-like base. The blond man still kept the tubes in his arms, although he was supposed to help take out the boxes.

“I want to collect at least one living sample for further examination.” He said hurriedly, leaning to the car with his shoulder, right beside the door. The only thing he could’ve thought of was the marine creatures, of course. “Do you think we can go in before the night? How deep do we need to go? Can you swim? I think I can hold my breath for a short time, but maybe I will just use the net to catch things. I guess fishes would be in a deeper part of the water, right? We should use that boat somehow; it didn’t seem to be in very bad shape. Maybe you could try to fix it if it is broken? I can try to look at the motor.”

Seraing put up the poles, screwed them together with the joints, and stretched the heavy, thick black elastic cover on them – it was a similar fabric that they found earlier, and also had a star-sign on it. Now, their doorway from the car was extended by a few square meters outside. Because Jibran needed the most space for his experiments and samples, Seraing took a metal box out of the vehicle and folded it out into a small desk. They also had chairs that worked the same; then he stored the glass and cage containers on top of each other in another corner.

After this, he turned to his beloved, and while he was busy talking, Seraing leaned to him, silencing him. As he kissed him, he took away the life preservers from his arms.

“Bring out the others, sunshine.” He said then, directing his partner towards the car. Jibran was blushing, and seemed humbled, forgetting what he was talking about, obediently getting in. But the dizziness didn’t last long, while he was inside, he started to chatter again.

“Obviously, I can’t do any research on the frequencies. I wish we had more equipment. Maybe we should check out some other military bases nearby. Or later, on our next trip. It would be awesome if there is anything useful left. We lost too much in the last catastrophe. I might try to make something new, like a portable frequency-meter. How does that sound? We had something like that before. But I need materials and have to have some colleagues who can help put it together.”

“I see. Good idea. If you want, I can connect you with some mechanics from the Northern Base or the Underground City Base.” Seraing replied, while he took out a lamp that had a solar-powered battery, and with his other hand he grabbed three more containers. Jibran once again hugged only one.

“Can you? That would be good.” He hurried to answer, and followed him back to their tent. Seraing put down the containers and hung the lamp above the fabricated desk. He had to lead the wires out with the solar panel. He was glad for the tiny window at the back of the shack – the wire wouldn’t be long enough to reach the doors, because he parked too far inside the house. So, he tied the wire to the rods of the tent under the roof, and stabilised the panel in the window frame, in a place where it could get most of the sunrays.

“So can we go now? Do you know how to swim?” Jibran asked when he realised that Seraing was done with the packing.

His question nailed something into Seraing’s mind, looking at the blond man, and frowned.

 “You can swim too, right?”

“How could I?” Jibran asked back almost shocked that Seraing dared to assume such a thing. Seraing’s face twitched. “I’d never taken military training. I never went to the swimming pools. I had different kinds of interests. But it shouldn’t be that hard. You can teach me.”

Seraing had to admit, he should’ve expected this outcome, but for a moment, he had to think about what to do. Obviously he didn’t plan to let Jibran go into the waves being unable to swim – in fact, the drifts were probably too strong even for him, despite he took himself as a good swimmer and diver.

“Is there something wrong? You can teach me how to swim, right?” Jibran finally noticed Seraing’s issue, and his sparkling eyes dimmed behind his glasses, alongside his wide smile. It looked like just occurred to him that he might have forgotten to mention a crucial detail.

Seraing sighed deeply, and massaged his eyes for a second.

“I will try to teach you, but this place is not the best for that training.” He said soon. “Let me summarize this: we don’t have anything other than a couple of swimsuits and life savers, no oxygen tanks, no equipment for underwater missions, or at least we have no idea how to use them… and you can’t swim. So our only choice to go into the water is if I go alone.”

Jibran’s shoulders sagged. He was visibly disappointed, and indicating the seriousness of the situation, for the first time since they arrived, he was speechless. Seraing didn’t like it, so he stepped closer to him, embracing his shoulders with one arm.

“Maybe not today but tomorrow. We still have a lot of time. I never swam in the ocean before either. So it might be dangerous for me too. But I’m sure there are a lot of interesting species in the shallow water that you can collect. Let’s take a look first.”

Jibran had gotten over his disappointment, and his eyes lit up again. At least he wasn’t in a bad mood.

Jibran also understood that it was better if he stayed close to Seraing, so as they walked along the beach, he was always just a few steps ahead, looking into the sand and the thin layer of water. Later, he decided to kick off his shoes, as they were soaking in salt water already, and he pulled up his pants too. He urged Seraing to do the same, so he just sighed and took off his boots and socks.

The sand was unimaginably soft under his toes, and unexpectedly warm as well. The sun probably heated it all day – it was still high up in the sky, though, it started to descend behind the faraway mountain that they had bypassed. The wavy land he mentioned to Jibran before, between the mountains and the ocean, still had shorter vegetation, apart from the very tall trees.  Nothing hindered the sun’s rays from reaching them. Yet, it was a very unique experience to feel the sun: they felt the scorching heat from its rays, but the air was much colder when the wind blew over them, creating extreme changes in the temperature on their skin.

At some point, when Jibran got closer to him, not trying to catch a sight of any marine creatures, just adoring the view – the trees, the white sand and the froth of the waves – Seraing reached for his hand at his side. When he caught it, intertwining their fingers, he began to wave their arms together back and forth.

Jibran looked at him, and smiled; his face was free from worry and wrinkles, and it made him look younger. He really liked these cheesy romantic stuffs, as he called them, but Seraing couldn’t deny that he loved them too. But he loved it even more, how Jibran’s beautiful azure eyes seemed to be much more vivid here as well – their blueness was overwriting the beauty of the scenery. At least for Seraing.

They walked a long way on the beach until they reached a rocky area, where the waves loudly splashed around the black, shiny stones. It was also slippery, so Jibran’s grip became tighter as they balanced themselves on these rounded, smooth objects.

“Let’s go back for now,” Seraing said soon. “The light started to fade. We didn’t bring any flashlight.”

“Okay, but let me take a breath,” Jibran complained, and right away, he seated himself on a bigger rock. Even his hands slipped out of Seraing’s. He just sighed, looking at the stubborn face before he also sat down next to him, smiling. “I thought it’s a good idea to walk on sand barefoot…”

“Do your feet hurt?” Seraing asked, knowing the answer. Balancing on soft soil was much harder than on solid ground. It was a more tiring experience for anyone not used to it. Seraing himself also felt a slight pain in his ankles, but it wasn’t severe.

“Not just my feet, but my knees and my hip too.” Jibran sighed dramatically, and leaned to Seraing’s shoulder, resting his head on him. Seraing also tilted his head to rest it on the blond strands.

“Do you want me to carry you back?” Seraing asked suspiciously, without the indication that he wouldn’t do it. Jibran clicked his tongue unchangingly, looking somewhere at the waves. Their legs were constantly attacked by them. The water seemed even colder than the wind.

“Tsk… Are you flexing again? You don’t have to act tough to impress me, you know. You can just admit that your feet also hurt.”

“Is that so bad if I want to impress you? Can’t I show off in front of my husband?”

Jibran shivered, and his left hand sneaked on Seraing’s thigh.

“I like when you call me your husband.” He said quietly. “But I haven’t answered that question yet.”

Seraing hummed in agreement, putting his own hand on Jibran’s thigh. The blond man jerked once, and unnoticeably tried to get closer to him.

 “But it’s a yes, right?”

“Seraing, don’t ruin it like that! You took away my cheesiest moment!”

“I’m sorry. Then what should I do? Do you want me to propose to you again? I haven’t really done it rightfully anyway.”

Jibran was silent for a couple of seconds, and they both watched how the sky slowly lost its colour and a few stars appeared on it with a light green ribbon. The white sand turned orange in the sunset, although, the shadows of the trees had stretched and transformed by now, dulling and breaking the direct lights.

“Um… I want the proposal to be cheesy too… Something that would give someone diabetes if they would know about it.” His doctor admitted hesitantly soon. Seraing giggled, and stroked his partner’s leg.

“Okay. I have an idea how to do that.”

“That’s actually alarming. How many romantic novels have you read?” Jibran’s tone was once again sarcastic, but from how it was shaken, Seraing knew, he was trying to hide his shyness over the topic.

“A few,” Seraing said playfully. “Not as much as porn.”

Jibran snored, and as if he wanted to punish Seraing for this confession, he suddenly moved his hand back, pressing his fingers on the younger man’s crotch.

 “Pervert.”

“It’s not me, who is trying to seduce you now, sunshine.”

The doctor gave him another punishment, by rubbing him there with a swift and strong move. Seraing lost his breath for a moment.

“How did you come up with the name sunshine?” Jibran unexpectedly asked. Seraing was somewhere else in his mind, and didn’t think, his partner would ask such questions, so he just blinked a few times with a pounding heart before he could understand what he asked.

 “You’re blond.”

Jibran’s hand stopped, though it just started to move continuously, and gradually increased its speed and strength. Seraing wanted to growl in dissatisfaction that he stopped.

“That’s it?” He was audibly shocked to his core.

“My initial thought was this.” Seraing admitted; his voice became raspy. He unconsciously tried to move his hip towards Jibran’s hand. “But you’re also the sunshine of my life. You make me warm, and without you, my life is colourless. I’m sorry, I should’ve said this as my main reason… it’s true though. But when I was about to use a nickname, the only thing that came to my mind was that you’re blond. I was quite nervous if you can’t tell. You’re the only one who I use a nickname for. I… have this strong habit of mine, not calling people in informal ways. So… I don’t have a talent for choosing nicknames, I guess. I suspected that you wanted me to give you a nickname, but I had to think about it for very long.”

Jibran’s fingers started to stroke him again, but just in a careless manner, not really aiming to arouse him. Seraing gulped, and sighed deeply, trying to calm himself down. Because, despite the doctor’s accusation, he did have a hard time containing his lust.

“Did you not give a nickname to the Admiral?” His partner suddenly asked. Seraing briefly shook his head.

“He was upset about it, even before I left.” The younger man admitted quietly, swiping the scenery of the darkening waves with his eyes. The green hue of the aurora started to become relevant. “We are friends. He offered me many times to call him by his name at least. But I just couldn’t. I feel like it’s disrespectful… we were not that close. For the same reason, I’m not calling the Colonel by his name. I think he wouldn’t mind it, even if he doesn’t offer it. But I want to respect him in the same way as before.”

Jibran felt like shaking slightly, as he listened to him, but when Seraing looked down, he saw his face wrinkling up with a smile. This unwillingly made him smile as well. No matter how much Seraing promised, he doesn’t care for the Admiral, he was still a sore spot for Jibran, so he must be very happy to hear this. Seraing just sighed, and kissed the blond head.

Their peaceful moment was suddenly interrupted by a deep, long, nearby roar and they quivered. They both swiftly turned their head to the forest, that was running parallel with the shores not too far from them, but with the dusk descending over them, they couldn’t see anything strange. Only the trees’ canopy danced in the wind.

“Let’s go back, sunshine. It’s very dark now. We should not run into monsters at night.”

Jibran finally gave in to Seraing’s plea.

They still could use the aurora’s green light, glaring down onto the ink-black rocks; however, as they began to walk back, still barefoot, they immediately noticed the illuminating blue light in the breaking waves that attacked the rocky bay.

They instinctively tried to back away a little bit – just in a way that they were still not close to the forest – not being sure of what could’ve caused the phenomenon. They hadn’t noticed it sooner, for it was not dark enough yet, but the evening gradually deepened over them. They carefully took a larger circle, trying to avoid touching the bioluminescence attraction. As the rocks dispersed and the white – now seemingly green – sand took over the beach, they could take a better look at it. The foam brought something out of the sea: they were tiny specks, miniature balls that floated in the water, washed ashore by the waves, and began to emit their bioluminescence glow on the sand, before the next wave snatched them back, replacing them with new ones. They were just as vivid blue as Jibran’s eyes.

“An Zhe would love this,” Seraing said quietly. He felt Jibran grabbing on his elbow after he spoke.

“An Zhe? Why? Do you think he would eat those things?”

“Oh, I just heard the Colonel saying something about illuminating mushrooms.” He explained. “It felt like he wanted to prohibit An Zhe to eat them and An Zhe seemed upset. I didn’t ask further, because I just overheard them at the dining hall. I guessed An Zhe likes shining and glowing things. I can’t blame him. It’s beautiful.” As he finished speaking, Seraing took off Jibran’s fingers, and held them in his own hand, just as they did before. The doctor’s fingers turned into icicles.

“Ah… I see. Tsk, how strict Lu Feng is… Meanwhile, he is always stuffing that poor boy with fruits.”

“He might be doing that for another reason. I heard that our body fluids can take on the taste of the things we eat if we eat enough of them.”

“Huh… wait… do you mean…” For the stuttering, Seraing giggled, and tightened his grip around Jibran’s fingers, still avoiding the glowing shores, watching them cautiously.

“They are a couple, after all. Have you not heard about this before?”

“No. Was this a rumour? Maybe I should do some experiments on you to find out.”

“If you want, you can, but I’ve already began to experiment on this.” Seraing grinned at his partner in the green lighting. “I like sweet stuff.”

Jibran looked confused, and he didn’t even answer right away.

 “What? What do you mean?”

“Well… what do you think, why am I stuffing you with candies every single day?”

As the doctor finally got it, he stopped, as if he hit an invisible wall. Seraing stopped as well, still grinning, and Jibran clicked with his tongue.

“You’re such a good manipulator, and you say, you’re not good at making people do things, huh? You know what, fine! I will test it on you, and I will get a better result from it too! Maybe I should keep you locked up, and just feed you all day with candies!”

“Maybe you should,” Seraing said with a wide smile, but when he made a step again, he suddenly stopped right away. This caused a little accident, as his doctor bumped into him and lost his balance. Seraing caught his waist immediately. “Jibran… you’re freezing.”

He did hear the slight shaking of the blond man’s voice, but only understood it now. Jibran was shivering wildly in his arm.

“It’s cold out here.” His partner murmured, and he looked away. Seraing didn’t see his expression well in the green aurora-tides. “I don’t even have my shoes on.”

“Then you should put them on.” He urged the doctor, which he got another tongue-click for.

“My feet are wet and dirty. I’m not putting my shoes on. And they are hurting.”

“You always complain about something.” Seraing sighed again. but with a smile. When Jibran started to get upset, and scold him, he just bent down, and with a quick move, he lifted his beloved in his arms. Jibran silenced when he wrapped his arms around Seraing’s shoulder.

“You don’t have to carry me. Why are you carrying me like this anyway?”

Seraing only smiled as an answer, and began to walk once again. He picked up the pace to get Jibran inside their car sooner. He started seeing the base in the distance. He sped up even more – his feet were also still shoeless, and the night only got colder.

“Okay, okay, I’m impressed now, okay? You can stop, and we can go back normally… You can put me down. It’s hard to walk on the sand. You don’t have to do this. Seraing, don’t act deaf again.”

 “I’m not acting deaf.”

“Then don’t carry me, damn it!”

“You seem to be comfortable, thought. I can carry you faster, so I can warm you up in our car. I’m planning to give you a good foot-massage, and maybe some other massages as well.”

Jibran loudly gulped; perhaps he couldn’t hold back himself imagining what sorts of “massages” Seraing meant. As for now, he couldn’t come up with any complaint, so their journey back to the shack was quite peaceful. Seraing did pay attention to every noise, especially since the sky was pitch-black now. The forest was a dancing shadow on the shore, moving to the music of the waves – but nothing tried to stop them from getting into their shelter.

~¤SxJ¤~

Seraing woke up very early, it was barely dawn. He was always a light sleeper, and they decided not to close the doors of the base for now – for they did have two additional “doors” anyway, one on the tent and one on the car if something tried to sneak up on them. And because the doors were pretty heavy to move when they tried.

The air was still cold, and the water was even icier at this time of the day. Seraing had a headlight on, and tried to get into the sea as deeply as he could, digging his feet into the sand underwater, searching for his treasure.

After many minutes of bending down, feeling how his limbs went numb and pained from the ice-cold bites of the waves, that had already reached his waist, and made him hiss and grunt… he finally found what he was looking for.

He made it in time; he even had a chance to change, before he walked to his beloved. In the car, it was still dark, but he switched the lamp in the tent, so a dim light had reached their resting place. Jibran was hugging his quilt, curling up a little bit, but digging his head into Seraing’s pillow somehow. Seraing smiled; he knelt beside him, and leaned over the doctor. From this close, he heard the peaceful breaths as well.

He noticed that waking up Jibran wasn’t too easy, but so far, when he kissed him all over on his neck and face, the blond man seemed more willing to open his eyes. This morning wasn’t different. After just a few soft kisses, Jibran began stirring. When he looked up, and the misty, unfocused eyes found the younger man, the doctor puffed, and before Seraing could dodge it, two arms slithered into his neck.

“Sramg.” He murmured inaudibly, perhaps calling him.

“Good morning, sunshine.” He said, and not minding that his partner hadn’t washed his face and teeth yet, he kissed him. “Sorry for waking you up. I want you to come with me.”

“Huh? Go? Where?” The blond man whined, closing his eyes again, but not letting Seraing go anywhere. Instead, he tried to pull him under the quilt.

“I want to watch the sunrise with you. It’s almost there.”

Jibran opened his blue eyes again, and blinked a few times. It seemed like this made him awake more successfully. His eyes weren’t that blurry anymore, his pupils sharpened. He stared at Seraing for a couple of seconds, before he unwrapped his arms off his neck.

“How much time have I got? I don’t even have my clothes on…”

Thus, he was quickly clad in his usual clothes – pants, shirt and lab coat – before following Seraing out of the shack. The younger man grabbed the folded chairs from their tent as they went out, and walked after Jibran to the beach.

The sky started to light up, it was light blue now, the aurora wasn’t visible anymore, and right in front of them, behind the harsh waves and the wind, they saw the horizon getting a more lilac, then pinkish, then orange, and then yellow colour. By that time, Seraing unfolded the chairs, and put them right on the border of the wet and dry sand.

Jibran was still freezing a little bit as he sat down. Seraing hugged him with one arm, and the doctor leaned to his chest.

The wind seemed to calm down when the first sunrays broke through the horizon, and shined on the marching waves. The sky turned into vivid blue, the water turned into vivid blue and Jibran’s eyes sparkled in vivid blue, as he watched the sunrise. The light has reflected on the frame of his glasses with fragile flickering. His face showered in the morning light, making his entire figure glow. The white lab coat and shirt he wore and his blond hair… everything glimmered in a gold hue. He really turned into “sunshine”.

Seraing smiled at this site, and then looked into the distance as well, tilting their head together, slowly caressing the other man’s shoulder. He sighed deeply into the salty, cold air when the sunrays were followed by the blinding yellow circle of the sun. It was so bright, as Seraing had never seen it before; he couldn’t even look at it directly.

“Jibran.” He spoke quietly, not to break this brief moment of peace.

 “Hm?”

Seraing got nervous for no reason; he took a few deeper breaths to calm down. His heart still pounded loudly and strongly in his chest.

“I want to spend the rest of my life on your side. Will you marry me?”

When Jibran lifted his head from Seraing’s shoulder, he also looked down at him againm and with his free hand, he took out the treasure he was looking for at dawn. He showed it to the doctor, keeping it on his palm.

It was just a seashell. Seraing saw pictures and heard about seashells before. When he was a kid, they often drew some of these forms in class, but they never actually saw or touched any. He didn’t know if Jibran had or not. It perhaps wasn’t even too interesting. It was just some calcium carbonate and protein, not a living thing, not something that had any research value. He was contemplating catching a live creature in the sea, but he wanted something that Jibran could keep, if he wanted.

Jibran slowly took the shell. It was also shining, no, even glimmering in the morning golden shower. It was a bit flat and striated; it seemed to have an orange or pink hue, but when the light grew stronger, it looked more white. It wasn’t bigger than their ID cards.

His beloved looked at the shell for a couple of long moments, stroking the coarse surface with his thumb.

“Yes.” And he smiled, but when they locked their eyes, his smile became a grin. “This supposed to be a ring-replacement, huh?”

“I’m sorry.” Seraing suppressed his laughter. “I lack of rings at the moment. But if you would like, I can get one when we return to the base.”

“Hmm… I like the shell better. But I really can’t show this off to anyone. Maybe make a medallion out of it.”

“I can try. But what if I destroy it?” Seraing’s gaze fell on the shell, which was still resting on its new owner’s palm. “It’s very delicate.”

“Then you can get a new one from here. I also want to get one… it’s not fair, that you don’t have any.”

“Alright. We don’t have to go very far to find some.” After a brief pause, Seraing looked at his partner again. “Was this sugary enough?”

Jibran burst out laughing.

“It was. Seriously, where did you get these ideas from?” He was still giggling over it, as he twisted his shell with a satisfied and pleasureful expression.

“After you left the base, I studied romantic literature. One of my subordinates had a huge collection of comic books. He was lucky, that our military residential areas were not destroyed, he still had them. He also had normal books and some movies that I watched on my tablet in the evening, when I was waiting for your email. I studied the contents very closely. I wanted to see, how I can keep you even in a long-distance relationship. But not many of them were very useful. To be honest, most romantic stories showed how the couple got together, not how they lived together after. I guess, that’s more interesting to chew on than on how to maintain a relationship. But it had some great cheesy ideas. So, I hope you won’t be jealous anymore of the Colonel and An Zhe, for doing cute couple-stuff. I still have many ideas that we can do to satisfy your sugar-addiction.”

Jibran stared at him with amazed sparks in his azure eyes, and his lips curled into a smile. But then he frowned, and his gaze grew suspicious.

“And you still say you watched more porn than romantic movies. How many have you watched from those exactly?”

Seraing’s face became hotter, and he couldn’t suppress an awkward laugh. He also turned his eyes to the sea again. The sun had already ascended over the horizon, and began its journey on the blue sky.

 “I didn’t really count.”

“And all of that for research purposes too?” Jibran murmured.

“Mn, well… partially, yes. And to create various fantasies about you. After I watched one, I replayed it in my head with you and me in the same situation. I’m deeply sorry for revealing my most perverted side. I have extremely low morals, I know. If you grossed out by it, I won’t be mad if you change your answer and give back the sh…”

 “Shut your fucking mouth.”

Seraing did not expect such a harsh scolding. Of course, he was just joking, he knew, Jibran would not leave him over this. But he still felt stunned, when the doctor suddenly jumped on his feet, just to sit on his lap from front. Seraing automatically wrapped his arms around the thin waist, before he was kissed forcefully.

Impatient hands were tearing his shirt away from him, hungry teeth bit into his lips, his jaw, his neck, sucking on him everywhere, and then licking the wounded skin. Seraing got lost in this intense attack, and at some point, he also lost his balance on the chair – they fell onto the sand by the hasty movements of their bodies. Seraing growled when Jibran bumped on him, and for a moment, he lost his breath.

Jibran did not change on his peace, not even after the fall, he was already pulling down Seraing’s pants and underwear together. It happened so fast, that the younger man felt like his mind was left behind somewhere. However, his body responded faster than he expected; he warmed up completely under Jibran, who was still biting him all over.

Seraing was naked, his back and legs were pressed against the cool, soft sand, which quickly adjusted to his rising temperature. His body arched backwards unintentionally, as Jibran’s nails suddenly scratched his sides. Then the doctor’s lips and teeth embraced one of Seraing’s nipples.

If he was gently pulsating until now, this made him stone-hard in just a second, and he let out a deep growl. His breath instantly became harsh and shallow, and his eyes blurred, as he looked down to the blond head. It was moving downwards. Seraing put his palm onto it and gently tucked his fingers into the strands; not pushing or pulling him, just letting him do whatever Jibran wanted.

This was the first time Jibran took that spot that Seraing used to take with him when they had switched roles – he sat between Seraing’s spread-out legs. He pushed away the chair that got stuck under them, and then sat up on his heels, as Seraing used to. It seemed like he just understood now, how perfect that spot was; the azure eyes seemed darker behind the glasses, swiping through Seraing’s upper body and then resting on the hard member that had already pointed towards him, waiting for his touch. He still looked at him hungrily, and the way he licked his sweet lips made the younger man tremble.

“Are you not going to undress?” Seraing asked in a raspy voice. He wanted to touch Jibran so badly, but the doctor was too far away. And perhaps he had other plans, judging by the grin he showed him after his question.

“No, sweetheart. You will experience the feeling I felt when you rejected my help.”

How did this turn out to be some kind of punishment, Seraing didn’t know, but he didn’t question it. It was indeed a bit painful not being able to contribute to the act, but he was also fine with it, since Jibran had a great time over there – this was all that mattered to Seraing.

He almost forgot to breathe when Jibran licked his lips, before leaning forward swiftly. He kissed Seraing’s stomach, and then his lower belly.

Every muscle in his body tensed intensely when those soft, wet lips embraced his penis. Jibran did not prolong this moment; he went straight for it, taking him into his mouth, and sucking on him for a long moment. Seraing’s hip was lifting up, and the throbbing in his manhood became faster and stronger. His balls shrank and hotness filled every single cell in his body. His eyes went blurry again, he heard his own fast, short breathing echoing in his ears, and… he couldn’t hold back a thrust.

Jibran squeaked, and Seraing noticed that the gentle embrace was releasing him. He looked up dazedly to the bright sky and Jibran between his legs. The sun’s rays were embracing him, as if they were coming out of him. The azure eyes were looking at him attentively. Seraing was shaking, near to his peak, as he saw this lovely person’s face getting so close to his jerking erection. Then, Jibran’s fingers, which held him loosely under the head, tightened around him. As if Seraing’s heart was squeezed, he writhed wildly towards the hole that the soft palm created, growling again by pleasure.

“Jibran.” He said in a hurried, deep voice. “I’m going to come.”

He didn’t really like fast-paced intercourses, but he knew, Jibran would misunderstand if he would stop him – he would’ve wanted to procrastinate until his body calms down enough to extend these intense moments. But now, he accepted that his beloved had joy in this act. He had to fight with his own self to let it happen – he noticed how strongly he was clenching his fists and tensing, as he was trying to hold back unconsciously like he usually did.

The pulsating feeling felt rather sharp than deep; it was hot, but not as bone-splitting, as with longer foreplay and sex. It was still very unbearable, and Seraing’s body was moving towards his partner instinctively.

Then, things took a little turn.

Jibran perhaps wanted him to come in his mouth, so he bent over him once again after Seraing’s warning, and he tried to swallow. But he gagged on him, and had to release him. Jibran’s face turned deep red immediately.

“Sun… Sunshine… you don’t have to swallow…” Seraing panted raspily, trying to focus on keeping it together for Jibran. His whole body cramped into a solid lump.

“I want to.” Jibran’s voice got hoarse too, and he sounded angry. Before Seraing could stop him, the doctor tried again… for a moment, Seraing thought he got it, and almost let himself loose, but then Jibran choked on him again. “For the fuck sake.”

“It’s… okay. It does take… some try… Jibran, just suck me, no need to swallow… I can’t hold it anymore.”

He gripped his own thighs in his helplessness, shaking violently while he tried to calm himself enough, and tried not to focus on the fast throbbing in his crotch.

Jibran was visibly annoyed, his lips were trembling, and the rim of his eyes got red. For a moment, Seraing thought, his beloved person will not listen… but then those trembling lips hugged his glands again. Smooth tongue pressed against him, licking the pre-juices before he sucked on it strongly. This sight in itself was enough for Seraing.

His orgasm felt good this way too, but after his seed filled his partner’s mouth, and his body didn’t jerk anymore, the pleasure seemed to be dissipating fast. His mind wasn’t dulled, and he almost didn’t get sweaty. Of course, he would never blame this on Jibran, who was already very upset.

The blond man sat on his heels again, licking his lips, cleaning his chin from the dripped-out semen, but he was shaking by anger. Seraing got over his own weakness, and sat up, reaching out for the doctor, but…

Jibran jumped on his feet, and avoided his hug.

“I’m sorry. I will study this a bit more before I try next time. I’ve never done this to Sera Jr, so I didn’t expect… Sorry. I… I’m going back. I’m getting hungry. Do you? What do you want for breakfast? At least, I know I won’t mess that up… haha. Okay, then just get ready at your own pace… no need to rush… I’m going.”

Seraing tried to talk to him, but the doctor just… left him there, sitting naked in the white sand under the sun and the blue sky, looking dumbly at the holes in front of him, where his beloved knelt before. It happened in under a minute, and his mind was still a bit slow.

He sighed deeply, and stayed there for a couple of moment. He wasn’t the type, who liked to be completely naked out in the open, but there was no one else to worry about. His clothes were around him carelessly thrown to the sand. His pants were soaking in the water when the waves reached it. Their chairs were both lying down in a sad position. At least, he didn’t see the shell anywhere nearby, Jibran probably kept it.

He knew that silly doctor was angry at himself, probably ashamed too, that was the reason for the nonsense talking. So Seraing had to come up with a plan to make him forget this incident. For now, nothing came to his mind. And Jibran thought it was easy for Seraing to read him… Even if he knew him well, there were still moments, when he felt uncertain of what to do.

In the end, after around fifteen minutes, Seraing went back to their camp, just to find a cussing blond doctor, who burned two eggs on their portable stove.
