Epilogue 1 - Vines

Yuu-chan  2024.08.21. 13:05

A light breeze ran through the field, bringing sweet smells and a hint of salt and coldness from the mountains. Seraing turned his head, and glanced in that direction; at the barely seen road they had in front of them, and frowned. He was quite familiar with the entire Abyss, but there was a border which he never crossed before, for he wasn’t a part of any of the marine teams of the Northern Base. The ocean was a strictly military area, Trial Court members rarely had permission to travel there. For the last few years’ events, that unused road was already taken over by plants – if they didn’t want to get lost, they ought to travel at daylight, when he still could see the faint trails of the armored vehicles’ wheels and caterpillars.

Seraing hung his head, and looked at the map on the car’s floor. He folded it out completely, standing in the opened door, leaning over the paper, supporting himself on his arms. If he was right about their current location – and he believed he was – then probably two more days would be enough to reach the sea.

He straightened up, and measured their chances. Maybe better to count with four days, especially if Jibran wanted to stop left and right to take samples. The young man sighed, but a light smile curled on his lips, as he put away the map.

The doctor never went on a journey to the wilderness in his entire life, and it showed. Despite how terrified he was on the first day being out here, around monsters, not having comfortable beds and toilets… he quickly found his enthusiasm when he realised how many samples he can collect here. They didn’t even bring enough containers and tubes – they had to spare some for sea creatures, which was Jibran’s true goal. They chose the ocean as their holiday destination, because he said, he wanted to get some of those creatures for Mr Jones.

But Jibran was easily distracted out here. Like a child, who never got to see the world, just from pictures and books. Which was actually true. Scientists didn’t have to come out if they didn’t choose such jobs specifically – and Jibran was a high-ranked scientist from the Main City’s Lighthouse. He did spend most of his time inside walls indeed, bending over tubes and Petri dishes, and staring at computer screens.

So Seraing didn’t plan to interrupt his joy. But they had to be wary of their trip. They had never gone to the sea before, so Seraing didn’t know, what would be waiting for them there.

He took off his vest, since the sun was glaring at him, heating him up under the heavy and hard cloth. Then reaching for a bottle of water, he turned around, and leaned to the car to drink.

He always thought this place was beautiful, with all the interesting shaped trees, unique plants and the continuous background noise that the wind created between leaves and branches. The Abyss really did get mild; he was never able to walk around these woods so carelessly before, without being watched by some monsters. Now, the only proof of life was some innocent birds chirping around the trees, nothing else.

As he drank, he put away the bottle with a frown. If anything was bothering him in staying at one place for too long it, was the amount of water they’d brought. Food was not that much of a problem anymore, since they could hunt without the fear of getting infected by consuming monsters, and Seraing knew all the edible plants as well – although, Jibran ate much more than he anticipated. Seraing bore the responsibility of taking care of their resources on this trip; apparently, he should have packed a lot more food. But even if they run out of it, they still can manage until they reach the sea – there was a military base at the coastline that they wanted to visit, and bases always had food resources too.

But getting fresh, drinkable water could be a problem. Finding streams or rivers would get them into unwanted encounters with monsters. Maybe they should’ve looked for it in the last city ruins when they passed through it.

Perhaps he could cut back his own drinking. It was not unfamiliar to him; they had situations in the past, when they didn’t have enough water for everyone. There was a type of fasting he could apply here. He would never ask Jibran to not eat or drink as much as he wanted. Probably, it would be too frightening for his beloved anyway.

Suddenly, a muffled scream hit his ears from the opposite direction, from the woods. He heard someone falling and cussing, then right after a high-pitched, trembling voice called his name.

His relaxed muscles tensed in a span of a second, and grabbing his pistol, he ran to the forest, following the calling.

Jibran wasn’t far from the car, but the path was very messy by the tangled vines and branches of the bushes, so he didn’t get there as fast as he liked. Then he stopped, as he reached a few square meters empty spot between the trees.

There was a huge, white bag opened up on the ground, and around it many test tubes and jars, small and not that small, paper towels, gauze, spatulas, syringes… The doctor really did not lie about that he wanted to check this place out: just by one sweep of Seraing’s look he recognised ten different samples stored neatly and tidily in those containers.

Jibran was sitting on the ground not far from his bag. It seemed like he tripped on a sticking-out root, and hit his hand as he fell. He was pouting and looked at him with reddened eyes.

Seraing lowered his pistol. Jibran probably wasn’t aware, that it only took one look for him to differentiate when the doctor was seriously hurt, and when he was acting – this face was the latter. But… Seraing joined to him, and still faked some worry, as he closed the remaining distance between them.

 “What happened, sunshine?”

“Seraing… I got hurt. This fucking root tripped me. Look… I’m bleeding!”

Seraing was amused by how much detail this man poured into his drama. He was a bit wounded on his palm, close to his wrist. Seraing knelt beside him, and gently took the injured hand into his fingers to observe the “very serious” wound.

Then he kissed it.

“Do you have sanitizer here? Or maybe let’s go back to the car; we should continue our travel soon anyway. I will treat your wound there.”

And Jibran perhaps wasn’t aware of this either, but when he was happy, his azure eyes were sparkling twice as much, painting his irises lighter blue. Even if he was able to keep the sad-face, his pupils dilated, and his expression revealed his happiness. No matter, how sadly he curled his lower lip down. It was clear as the day that he liked Seraing’s reaction.

“Do we have to go already?” Jibran sighed then, and real disappointment took over his act, as his gaze swept through his fabricated laboratory.

“Do you want to stay here?” Seraing followed his look. He knew most of the plants around them well, or just had seen them before. He understood that the doctor did not, but this really didn’t seem to be an interesting place, not that much to stay at least. “Why not stay some more exciting places? I know a cave not far away, just a couple of kilometres, where you can find much valuable samples than these plants.”

“I found something here,” Jibran complained, and turned back, looking at a certain point. Seraing once again followed his gaze, but he didn’t see anything: there was just some grass, a bouquet of cannibal plants with bright red flowers and a huge tree, embraced by a thin coil of vine. Mostly that was all, other than the usual mosses, bushes and rocks. It was nice looking, but nothing exciting. “Look, there.”

Jibran was pointing at the vine. Seraing frowned, and leaned closer. Maybe it was something very small, although, he had better vision than Jibran, so if the doctor had seen it, he should have too.

Seraing fell for the trap. He should’ve noticed, but he reacted too late. Jibran waited until he leaned over the grass, so he could push him out of balance. Soon enough, Seraing found himself lying on the grass, and Jibran was bending over him, pushing Seraing’s arms up, placing all of his physical strength into his grip on Seraing’s wrists that he held together.

Usually, Seraing wouldn’t have a problem breaking out from a grip like this, but now he just let Jibran overpower him, or at least to feel that way.

The blond doctor was grinning widely, his azure eyes sparkled behind his glasses, and his face glimmered with satisfaction and joy. This was more than enough for Seraing not to try to fight against him, just relaxed under the doctor, and looked up questioningly.

“Did you trip on purpose?” Seraing asked now, understanding the whole situation.

“I didn’t trip at all, sweetheart.”

He thought that much. Well, he didn’t mind one bit, so he just sighed.

“But I did find something,” Jibran added, and looked up, somewhere above Seraing. He also looked in that direction, even though his angle wasn’t that good from this position. He still only saw the vine… but then, he noticed that the vine was actually moving like a snake; it was slithering towards his wrists, as if it was obeying Jibran’s order.

It didn’t take long for the vine to make a knot around Seraing’s whole forearms. It wasn’t strong at all, and because he was clad in a white, long-sleeved shirt, the vine’s small thorns didn’t hurt him either.

“How convenient,” Seraing said, but let the doctor do his thing. He had some suspicion of what was about to come, seeing the excitement on his partner’s face. “Have you tamed it?”

“Not really… or maybe.” Jibran corrected himself after a second thinking. “Look, I just did this.”

Now his hands were free, he didn’t have to hold Seraing, so he reached out, and with his index finger, he started to stroke the vine around Seraing’s wrists. The vine reacted to the petting with a shiver, and the knot tightened, it was now much stronger – not uncomfortably, but Seraing couldn’t move around freely in the grip. And then, he felt his sleeve getting wet.

The vine produced some sort of fluid that it was releasing after the shaking. If it did so, because it was a defence mechanism, or something else, Seraing wasn’t sure. The vine didn’t seem to be either vicious or afraid of them, so maybe it really did let those fluids out for the stroking.

Jibran’s right hand was petting the vine still, the thick mucus poured down by those movements, and more and more soaked into Seraing’s shirt, now it reached his elbows as well.

After a few minutes, Seraing started to feel something on his arm. At first, it was just ticklish, he wanted to scratch his arms, especially on the inside part, where his skin was softer. But then he noticed that every movement he made caused a very vivid and strong impulse on him. He suppressed a moan, and tried to move his arms so the shirt’s fabric or the mucus and wetness couldn’t touch his skin… but it was impossible, and he just realised the reason.

The feeling wasn’t really painful, but it was almost unpleasant. His skin became oversensitive to any touch, no matter how tiny it was; his nerves sent emergency waves through his system, and he felt hotness under his skin there. It was bearable, but he also had some urges deep inside to pull out his arms from the knot, and wash the fluid down.

“Can you feel it?” Jibran asked then, after a couple of minutes of silence, while Seraing dealt with his moans. Seraing looked at him, and saw the greedy fire in his eyes. So that was his goal, to begin with.

“Mn. I feel it… Are you going to seduce me with it?”

“You’re sharp as ever.” His beloved said with a bit of sarcasm, but he still grinned widely. “Are you not afraid, right, sweetheart?”

Seraing thought about the answer: he felt a bit uncomfortable, but he couldn’t be afraid just because of some experiments that this enthusiastic doctor wanted to try on him. But maybe Jibran wanted to hear that.

“I’m not sure yet.” It was a little white lie, just to elevate Jibran’s joy. “Should I be afraid?”

“Oh, I’m not going to hurt you, but… you might be begging me to stop.”

As he spoke, Jibran’s hands were stroking down on Seraing’s stretching torso; he meticulously touched every muscle on Seraing’s body through the shirt’s fine fabric, and then he licked his lips, probably imagining the “scenery” without the clothes.

“Before you begin to torture me…” Seraing spoke up, and Jibran frowned as he glanced up again from staring at Seraing’s lower parts. “… Please, go back to the car, because I left in a hurry, and the door is open. If a monster steals our food, that wouldn’t be beneficial. Also, if you’re already there, you could switch the ultrasound disperser on. It can keep smaller monsters away from this area. Because… if I’m tied up, I can’t use my pistol if something decides to attack us while you’re playing with me.”

Jibran looked more and more annoyed and displeased as Seraing spoke, and by the time he finished, he was not touching him anymore, but sitting on his heels with crossed arms.

“You are a killjoy.” He complained.

“I’m sorry, sunshine. But if we have to starve the rest of our trip, you would be even more unhappy.” Seraing explained calmly. “And you said you’re not good in combats. Can you use my gun to save us?”

His pistol was on his belt, of course. He never gave that away to anyone, even if he left the Northern Base, but no one asked for it either. So he just brought it with him. Jibran seemed resigned all of a sudden, as he realised, how right Seraing was, and his arms fell to his sides.

“Okay. I’ll go. Which button is the disperser? I didn’t notice we have one…”

“It’s just a modest one.” The young man explained. “Every armored car ought to have one in the past, mostly for the flatlands. It wasn’t a wise idea to use it in the Abyss before the Bell Toll. I only turned it on when we stopped at night. Are you familiar with armored vehicles?”

“Tsk… just a little. It wasn’t my professional.” Jibran murmured offended.

“I didn’t blame you for it,” Seraing said permissively. He closed his eyes to imagine the control panel of their car. It was a smaller vehicle, better suited for narrow places or just to drive from one place to another quickly, and was accustomed to small teams. So naturally, the control panel was a bit different on these types of cars, but the important buttons were the same. “On the right side, it’s a little slider, black and knurled, there is a scale beside it from zero to ten. Put it around five, that’ enough.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Jibran stood up with a dramatic sigh, and turned his back to him. “Don’t do anything funny until I come back. If you’re not tied to that tree, I will be angry.”

 “Roger that, sir.”

So the waiting had started. As soon as Jibran went away, Seraing tried to see if the vine could hold him down, but as soon as he was using a bit more force, the thin tendril was about to release him. Seraing put his hand back after, and just laid there, looking up at the canopies. He didn’t see the sky from the leaves and branches; everything was dancing in the wind, causing the sunrays to wave and twist – unlike the aurora, these were thinner, straighter and more fragile ribbons of lights.

It was once again peaceful. He probably could sleep here if he wanted to. Being a light sleeper would allow him to rest – he actually closed his eyes for a couple of long seconds, relaxing on the grass.

His arms were still somewhat sensitive, so he tried to move them around, but not too much for Jibran to notice. However, it was already quite a long time, since the doctor left. Seraing looked in the direction of the car, but he couldn’t see it from here. He tried to listen to the sounds, but nature was quite overwhelming with its clattering.

“Jibran!” He shouted, knowing that his voice was audible, since he also heard when the doctor fell, and called for him. “Are you coming? I’m starting to get numb!”

No answer.

Seraing frowned. The control panel wasn’t that complicated, there were a few buttons on it, but almost every one of them looked different. With his description, Jibran should’ve found the ultrasound disperser’s slider already. Was there something else going on? Did he try to do something? Or did he fall this time for real?

But it was strange that he didn’t even answer.

Seraing waited a couple of more minutes, and started to get worried. He decided to break his promise, and forced the vine to let him go. He didn’t pick up anything from the doctor’s stuff, leaving the possibility open that they would come back to continue this little play, but he had to check on him.

The door of the car was still open, and as he went closer, he saw the legs of the blond man; he was sitting in the car with his back tilted to its wall. Seraing now heard the muffled whimpers and hisses, as if he was suffering. So he quickly jumped there, and looked inside, observing the doctor.

 “Jibran, what’s wrong?”

This was not an act this time. His face was red and sweaty, his eyebrows wrinkled; he took down his glasses, and panted lightly, as he tried to bite on his moans. For his voice, Jibran was startled, and looked at him suddenly, his eyes watered.

“Serainhng…” He growled, and pressed his lips together. “I’m gonna die. I’m such an idiot.”

Seraing got into the car, and knelt beside his beloved partner, examining his whole body, but he didn’t see any blood.

 “What happened?”

Jibran suddenly viciously writhed, and hunched down, before he decided to fall to the floor.

 “I… I thought I take a… a piss before I go back to you… but I forgot… that I touched the vine…”

Seraing still frowned, as he tried to understand the situation. Touched the vine? Take a piss? Then it clicked in his head, and instinctively looked down at Jibran’s crotch, which he tried to protect from his pants, stretching out the fabric.

Seraing couldn’t speak for a moment.

“That…” Actually, this was kind of funny in a way, but he didn’t dare to laugh. “That is unfortunate… how do you always manage to get into these situations?”

This was not the first little accident they had, since they left the base a few days ago, but all of them were just a nuisance and more like a ridiculous situation. This was the reason why Seraing fell for the tripping-trap earlier – it wasn’t unexpected from Jibran to trip on his own leg, basically. Seraing only never laughed, because he knew that Jibran’s limbs truly had some coordination issues yet. He clearly was slower on his right side.

Jibran just whined, whimpered and moaned, curling into a human-ball. Seraing quickly rearranged his thoughts, and sighed deeply, looking up to the road.

“Alright… I guess we’re leaving then. I will go get your stuff. You can just take off your clothes, and if you haven’t yet, try to wash yourself down. I will be back in a moment.”

Jibran answered with a faint “okay”, so Seraing went to do what he said. He wiped his hands, wiped the containers, and patted the bottom of the doctor’s white bag after he carefully put every jar and tube in it. When he assured that he left the place fairly untouched as it was before Jibran came here, he returned to the car.

Jibran was already naked, but still lying on the floor. As he got into the car, Seraing put the bag on top of the other packages they had and went to their resting place. The vehicle also had a low ceiling, so he had to bend down a bit. He took out both quilts from the metal drawer, and placed them on the ground.

 “Jibran, come here.”

But he only got moans as an answer, so he had to go back for him. He carefully picked him up. Jibran visibly enjoyed the pampering, but Seraing knew, he didn’t fake his pain now – his member was swollen and red, it seemed very aroused; all of the veins were visible on it. Probably even the touch of the air made it harder.

Seraing slowly descended him onto the quilt, and sat beside him, still leaning over him, supporting himself on his arms. Jibran looked up; his face was slightly red, his eyes still watered and also red, and he still panted for air. Seraing felt pity for him at this moment, and tried to think of a solution. If he touched Jibran like this…

 “Seraing, I’m dying.”

“Calm down, sunshine. You will get over it. Did the water not help at all?” He asked calmly, knowing that his beloved was slightly overdramatic again.

“Nho… I can’t even touch it.” The blond man whined, and looked at himself with a grimace. “Ahh, this is so bad. Even when I speak and move… I can feel it… I’m gonna die. Seraing, I can’t handle this. Close the door! The wind is coming in, I can feel that too…”

Seraing obediently stood up, but as soon as he started to walk, Jibran shouted at him.

“SLOWER! Your… your steps are rumbling… ahh, the vibration… Seraing don’t you dare to drive this car now, or else I truly die!”

Seraing didn’t say a thing, just continued to walk with very light steps – at least as much as he was able to – and closed the door. As he did that, the vehicle became quite dark, so he switched the lamp on over the resting place. As he went back carefully, he sat down again at his lover’s side.

“Maybe I should put a cold compress on it?” Seraing asked out loud thinking, looking at Jibran’s body. With this white light, his arousal seemed even more red and veiny.

“No!” Jibran cried out. “Not the cold, I can’t… It would fall off! I can’t handle extreme temperatures now.”

Seraing looked at his face once again, the hopeless, suffering expression, and couldn’t help but say:

“Maybe this is karma. You were about to do this to me, weren’t you?”

Jibran reciprocated his gaze for a second, then guilt made his pupils shiver, and he turned his head away from Seraing, pressing his lips together. He was murmuring something, but Seraing didn’t catch.

 “What did you say?”

“I WANTED TO PENETRATE YOU, FOR THE FUCK SAKE!” Jibran shouted, but his words halted at the end of the sentence, and he hunched down again, probably even his own voice acted like a rush of resonating waves for his erection.

Seraing still felt a bit stunned, and he raised his eyebrows, but then suddenly everything started to make sense.

“You wanted to tie me up and seduce me with this fluid, so I would not resist you, trying to bed me?” He asked just for clarification, and Jibran’s body trembled. He turned his back to Seraing now.

“What if I am? I’m sorry, okay?” He asked in a broken, raspy voice. “I thought it would make it more fun… you said your old boyfriend forced you into that position. I didn’t know how else I could make you agree on it.”

“But I already told you, I’m fine with being the receiver.” Seraing reminded him calmly. “Yes, I didn’t like it that much in the past, but just because I couldn’t switch, and try out other things. I also didn’t love that boy as much as I love you, and I definitely didn’t trust him in the same way as I trust you. Jibran, you don’t need any of these… tricks to convince me.”

He put his hand on Jibran’s back, and stroked a few times to calm him down, and show his support. This silly doctor did have some dumb ideas, but Seraing mostly found them cute or funny, so he never minded them. But the doctor was clearly a little bit clumsy and careless, considering the place they were in now. Seraing really couldn’t take his eyes off of him to protect him from his own little mistakes.
